Q: What are the qualifications to apply for a scholarship?

A: The applicant must:

  • Be a Maryland Resident enrolled in an accredited Maryland University, College or Community College.
  • Taking a minimum of six (6) credit hours with a major in accounting, leading to a degree or certificate.
  • Have a 3.0 GPA or higher in both accounting and overall.
  • Must have completed Accounting Principals I and II.
  • Be sure to submit the completed online application along with the most current transcript(s), and recent photo by the June 15th deadline. ***Graduate students may apply IF they were a recipient of the scholarship as an undergraduate.

Q: How much is the Scholarship?

A: The award is based on $500.00 for part-time (6-11 credit hours) with a maximum of $1000.00 for full-time (12 or more credit hours) per semester basis. Awards are based on availability of funds with a cumulative maximum of $8000.00 total per student.

Q: How often is the scholarship awarded?

A: Scholarships are only awarded in the Fall semester.  Renewal of the scholarship for the Spring semester is contingent upon submitting an updated transcript reflecting fall/winter grades to the MSATP Office by January 15th. 

Q: Are there any other requirements?

A: All students who receive a scholarship must submit a current photo to the MSATP Office. Your photo will be used in our quaterly newsletter announcing your award.  Photos can emailed to

Q: Do I have to be a member of MSATP to apply?

A: No; scholarships are available to all who meet the above criteria.

Q: Are there any other benefits?

A: If you are awarded a scholarship you will receive the following:

  • One year free membership to the Maryland Society of Accounting & Tax Professionals, Inc.
  • The ability to advertise in our e-newsletter for employment for “Free”.
  • Access to our quaterly newsletter, "The Freestate Accountant".
